Quatre Bouches

“…it is amazing to see how alert the singers respond to each other… certainly worth a recommendation to watch and listen to this special quartet.”

Musicians: Bauwien van der Meer - soprano, Petra Ehrismann - alto, Gerben Houba - tenor, Michel Poels - baritone

Quatre Bouches focuses on a pleasant, appealing and sometimes humorous programming, which places particular emphasis on the music of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Experiments with other art forms are also not shunned.
Quatre Bouches may also be engaged as a solo quartet for oratorio and concerts. In this guise they have appeared in various oratoria by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Mendelssohn. The quartet is well known for it’s beautifully balanced ensemble sound in combination with the soloistic abilities of all four singers.

Quatre Bouches

Quatre Bouches was formed in 2005. In 2008 the quartet sang the world première of Nul, plaattektoniek, WC by Ruben Naeff at the presentation of the book Bètacanon to Ronald Plasterk, Minister of Education, Culture and Science. A CD of this piece has since been released. In april 2010 Quatre Bouches joined the multimedia-project “Media Me” by Bert Kommerij. The quartet recorded new compositions by Barbara Okma, used as soundtrack for the film and radio-play “Media Me”.

The quartet is also active in the area of music theatre. In January 2009, in a Tros production in cooperation with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic, the quartet was responsible for performing the ensemble pieces in the opera Abu Hassan in Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn in Utrecht. And on 29 April 2009 Quatre Bouches performed the world première of the opera Dichtertje (based on the novella of the same name by the Dutch writer Nescio) by composer Harke Jan van der Meulen.
In august 2010 their own production Subtext (directed by Evi de Jean) had it’s première in the Amstel hotel during the Grachtenfestival. And in april 2012 the quartet participated in the Maria Magdalena Passion, a music theater production, written by Noortje Braat (music) and Hetty Kleinloog (text).

In 2011 their CD Nowell was released with mostly English and Dutch repertoire from the 20th and 21st century and a few traditional Christmas Carols. The CD was presented in a series of concerts in December 2011 with the fully staged show Nowell (stage direction Annechien Koerselman).
